Visit Colombia to investigate investments and collaborations

The focus remained on promoting opportunities for Swedish companies in the transport sector and in aerospace technology.
The day-long visit was a follow-up to the memorandum of understanding signed with Colombia’s Minister of Transport during the presidential visit to Sweden last year.

Major investments are being made in Colombia’s transport sector.
Naturally, the ambition is for Swedish companies to continue being long-term partners as the city’s bus fleet is now being updated and modernized. Several cities are planning to invest in sustainable system solutions where Swedish companies are world leaders. Sweden’s goods exports to Colombia have increased by 47 percent over the past five years, and the aim is for this to continue growing in the coming years. Especially following President Petro’s announcement in April that Colombia intends to purchase Gripen aircraft from SAAB. This will take our partnership to a new level and lead to deeper cooperation in several areas.

The visit with the business delegation truly highlighted that Swedish companies can contribute with world-leading sustainable and innovative solutions in smart mobility and the energy transition within the transport sector, as well as traffic safety and aerospace technologies such as air traffic management and digital towers.

The business delegation included:
Dan Pettersson and the team from Volvo Group,
Ulf Rudebark, CEO at Independent Business Group,
Ricardo Marcon, Sergio Martins, and Pierre Farkas with the team from Saab,
Mauricio De Alba from Scania Latin America.
Also participating were Maria Krafft and Rikard Fredriksson from the Swedish Transport Administration (Trafikverket), and Lotta Danielsson from the Swedish Export Credit Agency (EKN).
Business Sweden was represented by Olov Hemstrom.

We had excellent meetings with, among others, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Transport, Bogotá’s airport, and Bogotá’s public transportation authority. In addition, the delegation held several separate technical-level meetings to deepen cooperation and create new business opportunities for Swedish companies. Good for Colombia and good for Sweden.

These 4 days has been very interesting and Independent Business Group are looking forward to deepen the relations in both countries going forward ✈️
