Feasibility Study of Swedavia’s Stockholm Arlanda Airport Third Parallel Runway designation

January 2024 – An independent study and assessment have confirmed that Swedavia’s proposed third parallel runway designation meets efficiency, capacity, and environmental requirements. Commissioned by Swedavia, the evaluation conducted by Independent Business Group (IBG) assessed the runway’s feasibility in terms of capacity, environmental impact, noise pollution, and financial viability. The study aimed to ensure the project meets operational needs while maintaining a responsible approach to cost and sustainability.

IBG analyzed four different runway designation options, using average annual wind data from 2011 to 2021 to determine final approach and departure paths. The study considered existing airspace constraints but assumed adjustments could be made as needed. Published Restricted and Danger areas were kept unchanged to ensure realistic traffic flow analysis
