PETRONAS has awarded Independent Consulting Limited a contract in Malaysia for conducting an Aeronatical Study in relation to the proposed refinery and Petrochemical Integrated Development (RAPID) and Re-GAS Terminal (RGT) Project in Penggerang, Johor, Malaysia.

The PETRONAS Refinery is located under a significantly busy airspace. The major airport, Changi International Airport, Singapore, is located approximately 13km to the west of the development area; and Hang Nadim International Airport, Indonesia 22km to the south.

Additionally five civilian and military airports in Singapore along with Senai International Airport, Johor Bahru, some 58km to the north west, all add to the level of air traffic in the area.

Refineries and Petrochemical plants require tall chimneys with flaring discharges and thus Independent have been requested to provide this aeronautical study in order to quantify the impact on existing and future aviation activities in the area and if required propose suitable amendments to the existing procedures.

The results will be presented to the Department of Civil Aviation (DCA), Malaysia, to ensure compliance with the aviation legislation of Malaysia and ICAO regulations.
